Hey there! I hope you are having a great Monday!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I have a wonderful freebie Brag Book for you that compliments my new kit “Outside My Window.”
As usual, I will be giving away one page every day, so be sure to bookmark this site and come back tomorrow!
Before I show you the kit, though, I want to tell you about the inspiration for it!
Several weeks ago, I noticed, outside my window, a hummingbird that kept returning to the same branch in a tree. It wasn’t very long before I realized that she was building a nest there! Not knowing much about hummingbirds, I googled them! I learned that hummingbird nests are typically about the size of a half walnut, and that is exactly the size of “my” birds nest. I read that hummingbirds typically lay just 1 or 2 eggs. When the bird was away from the nest, I carefully approached it, held my camera high, and blindly snapped away until I captured a photo of the inside of the nest. One egg! We had one egg! I also learned from Google that hummingbirds use spider webs to bind the nesting material together and to secure the nest to the structure it is attached to, in our case a branch. I captured a photo of the hummingbird on its nest, and in the photo you can see the silk of the spider webs on the branch and on the nest! I learned that egg incubation usually lasts between 15 and 19 days. During the next two weeks I kept an eye on the nest, and it was so much fun to see this little hummingbird, so still, just sitting there on her nest. I’ve never seen a hummingbird except in furious flight, so this was a new experience for me! And then last Friday, the bird was stirring in her nest, moving in a different fashion than she had been moving before. When she flew away, I got out a rickety old 8 ‘ wooden ladder, climbed up it, and with my arms extended as far as I could safely reach, I caputred an image of the little baby bird. I have been so fascinated with this whole experience that I was inspired to create something from it. You will see the results in my newest kit, which I have titled “Outside my Window.” If you look carefully, you will see my photos incorporated into some of the papers!
