I really enjoy designing papers. Part of what I like about the process is the multiple looks that one can get using just one paper and a few great tools. By using blending modes, and adding light play, texture, and/or patterns, you will be able to create a great variety of different looks.
I have two new tools in my store: Crumpled Papers Set 2 and Light Play Overlays. Today I want to show you a few quick samples of what you can do with them. Here are the product previews, so you know what we are starting with.
Let’s start simple by adding just a gradient overlay to a Light Play. Just grab your Paint Bucket Tool, make sure you have it set to the Gradient option, select the gradient you want in the top menu, and flood a blank layer above the Light Play. I changed the blending mode of the Gradient Color layer to Soft Light to achieve the result below.
It’s nice, but it’s rather “stagnant.” I decided to add some texture to it. I placed Crumpled Papers, Set 2, #2 above the Gradient layer, and changed the blending mode of the crumpled paper to Soft Light.
I really liked that, but wondered what it would look like with a pattern. I chose to use a pattern from Patterns Set 2, Damask Transparencies #6. I placed this pattern transparency above the Crumpled Paper and changed it’s blending mode to Overlay. I then took a scruffy brush and set the opacity of the brush to 50%. I lightly erased some of the pattern layer in the lighter areas, where the Light Play was the brightest.
And I’m happy with the end result. That’s just how easy it is to make some really lovely papers.
