Merry Christmas Eve! – Advent 24

Author: Karen  //  Category: Categories, Christmas, Freebies & Gifts, Wallpaper

It’s Christmas Eve.

Some of us are still shopping, or wrapping, or baking.
Some of us have been prepared for weeks.
Some of us love the holidays, for some of us they are painful.

Whatever your situation, I invite you to take 5 minutes out of your day and read this simple, yet profound story…. The Tale of Three Trees.
I trust it will warm your heart, and I hope it will inspire you.

(Click HERE [I'm sorry. This link has expired] to download a printable copy , as well as a Desktop Wallpaper, and scroll below to read in a larger text size.)

If you prefer not to read, but would love to watch an elegant, classic, touching 8 minute version of this story, you may do so HERE.

If you would like to watch an adorable animated version of this story, you may watch it HERE on YouTube.
Please note the tale is presented in 3 videos. (Links 2 and 3 are on the right side of the YouTube page.) This version is wonderful for children.

 Merry Christmas!

The Tale of Three Trees

Once upon a mountain top, three little trees stood and dreamed of what they wanted to become when they grew up. The first little tree looked up at the stars and said: “I want to hold treasure. I want to be covered with gold and filled with precious stones. I’ll be the most beautiful treasure chest in the world!” The second little tree looked out at the small stream trickling by on its way to the ocean. “I want to be traveling mighty waters and carrying powerful kings. I’ll be the strongest ship in the world!” The third little tree looked down into the valley below where busy men and women worked in a busy town. “I don’t want to leave the mountain top at all. I want to grow so tall that when people stop to look at me, they’ll raise their eyes to heaven and think of God. I will be the tallest tree in the world.”

Years passed and the little trees grew tall. One day three woodcutters climbed the mountain. The first woodcutter looked at the first tree and said, “This tree is beautiful. It is perfect for me.” With a swoop of his shining ax, the first tree fell. “Now I shall be made into a beautiful chest, I shall hold wonderful treasure!” the first tree said. The second woodcutter looked at the second tree and said, “This tree is strong. It is perfect for me.” With a swoop of his shining ax, the second tree fell. “Now I shall sail mighty waters!” thought the second tree. “I shall be a strong ship for mighty kings!” The third tree felt her heart sink when the last woodcutter looked her way. She stood straight and tall and pointed bravely to heaven. But the woodcutter never even looked up. “Any kind of tree will do for me.” He muttered. With a swoop of his shining ax the third tree fell.

The first tree rejoiced when the woodcutter brought her to a carpenter’s shop. But the carpenter fashioned the tree into a feed box for animals. The once beautiful tree was not covered with gold, nor with treasure. She was coated with sawdust and filled with hay for hungry farm animals. The second tree smiled when the woodcutter took her to a shipyard, but no mighty ship was made that day. Instead, the once strong tree was hammered and sawed into a simple fishing boat. She was too small and too weak to sail to an ocean, or even a river. Instead she was taken to a little lake. The third tree was confused when the woodcutter cut her into strong beams and left her in a lumberyard. “What happened?” The once tall tree wondered. “All I ever wanted was to stay on the mountain top and point to God…”

Many, many days and nights passed. The three trees nearly forgot their dreams. But one night, golden starlight poured over the first tree as a young woman placed her newborn baby in the feed box. “I wish I could make a cradle for him,” her husband whispered. The mother squeezed his hand and smiled as the starlight shone on the smooth and the sturdy wood. “This manger is beautiful,” she said. And suddenly the first tree knew she was holding the greatest treasure in the world.

One evening a tired traveler and his friends crowded into the old fishing boat. The traveler fell asleep as the second tree quietly sailed out into the lake. Soon a thundering and thrashing storm arose. The little tree shuddered. She knew she did not have the strength to carry so many passengers safely through the wind and the rain. The tired man awakened. He stood up, stretched out his hand and said, “Peace.” The storm stopped as quickly as it had begun. And suddenly the second tree knew she was carrying the King of heaven and earth.

One Friday morning, the third tree was startled when her beams were yanked from the forgotten woodpile. She flinched as she was carried through an angry jeering crowd. She shuddered when soldiers nailed a man’s hands to her. She felt ugly and harsh and cruel. But on Sunday morning, when the sun rose and the earth trembled with joy beneath her, the third tree knew that God’s love had changed everything. It had made the third tree strong. And every time people thought of the third tree, they would think of God.

That was better than being the tallest tree in the world.

So the next time you feel down because you didn’t get what you want, just sit tight and be happy because God is thinking of something better to give you.

Advent – Day 22

Author: Karen  //  Category: Categories, Christmas, Freebies & Gifts, Quick Pages, Recipe Cards

Today is Thursday, December 22nd.  I hope that we are now all in the position to sit back, relax, and enjoy the remainder of this holiday season… unless, of course, you are one of the ones who enjoy last-minute Christmas shopping, the bustling excitement of the stores, and the frantic search for that one last present.  I’ve been on both sides of the fence.  This year I plan to relax!

Don’t forget… I will be sending my newsletter out this evening.  Be sure to sign up today to receive it, as you won’t want to miss the special goodies I will be including in it!

Newsletters can be a fabulous source of information. For instance… remember how I have encouraged you to sign-up for the newsletter at Digital Design Den?  All Den newsletter subscribers received a special package in their email today!  And it’s ONLY for them!  This isn’t something you can go to the store to pick up… however, I did think this was SUCH a splendid gift that I got permission from the store owners to show it to you:

But then I thought… Wow! If I saw a preview of this simply adorable, printable calendar that I didn’t find in my mailbox, I would be soooo sad!  So I asked for a favor of the good ladies at the Den, and they agreed!  ………. IF you go sign up NOW for the Den newsletter, and send an email to:  robyn at digitaldesignden dot com   and ask her for the calendar, she will be kind enough to send it to you!  (Don’t forget – we type email addresses out fully to fool those nasty spammers… so replace the “at” with “@” and the “dot” with “.”  and Robyn will get your email.) And tell you that I sent you!

  * Don’t  forget – theStudio Blog Train is active until December 27th, so if you missed it, you can find out about it HERE (I’m sorry. This link has expired), as well as pick up my contribution.

 * The Den is hosting a Countdown to Christmas on their Blog. You will find your daily gift HERE.

Tonight I have the most adorable recipe card and YUMMIEST-EVER recipe for 5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake….. I am sooo going to make this tomorrow!!  I’ll probably hide the recipe after the holidays though…. it is just tooo easy to make,  and I can see it becoming WAY too addicting.  (Microwaves vary!  This recipe cooks for 3 minutes in a 1000 watt microwave.)  Thanks to my anonymous friend for yet another dynamite gift for us!… Oh.. and I was so excited about this gift that I almost forgot…(honestly!)  the card is made using my Ginger Magic Kit, which is now on sale at theStudio for $2 for December 22nd and 23rd only!

And guess what……… inside of today’s free gift download, there is ANOTHER surprise, not shown in this preview… Nope! Not gonna tell you.  You will have to download it to find out!   ;)

Advent – Day 21

Author: Karen  //  Category: Categories, Christmas, Freebies & Gifts, Hybrid/Printables

So remember the story I told you yesterday about the note my granddaughter wrote to Santa asking for a puppy?  Well………. her 10 year old brother, Tyler,  spent the night with us last night.  At breakfast this morning we were talking about Christmas, and he very confidently told us that Emily was NOT getting a puppy.  When I asked why, he said that it just “couldn’t happen.”  He said that Santa could not put a puppy in a stocking, because it could possibly fall out and get hurt, or wander around the house lost.  Also, Santa could not wrap the puppy in a box because there would be no air, and the puppy would die.  Of course.  So logical.  I think Tyler is going to grow up to be an engineer. ;)   Emily will be the ballet dancer or artist.  Although last time I asked her she said she wanted to sell candy canes. And popsicles in the summer….. of course!

Okay…. on to some other fun things!

If you have not signed up for my newsletter, please be sure to do so.  I will be sending it on the 22, and you won’t want to miss it!  I promise!
